PANJIM: The councillors have raised strong objection to an order of the Office of North Goa District Magistrate designating parking space for Income Tax Department at Cortim without taking into confidence the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).

One councilor, who was stopped from parking the vehicle in front of Pundalik Niwas Building, here, where the office is situated, has complained about it to the CCP.

“The entire stretch has been blocked by placing cement bags. The CCP has not taken any resolution to earmark this area exclusively for the I-T Department staff. Moreover, the councillor was a victim of rude behaviour by the person who stopped her from parking her vehicle. She was shooed away from there,” sources said.

The CCP has nevertheless not filed a complaint regarding this issue citing it could be a case of miscommunication. It is also learnt that the signage mentioning parking for I-T Department staff at the area was thrown away but was re-installed despite strong objection by some of the councillors.

As per a notification by the District Magistrate, the parking space has been designated for I-T Department.

“The Commissioner, Income Tax Department, Panjim is directed to publish this notification through the Director of Information and Publicity in local newspapers and PWD (Engineering Cell) to make necessary arrangements to erect the signboard at the above place as per the specification laid down by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways…and report compliance within three days time,” reads an order by DM Ajit Roy issued on October 7, 2021.
