PANJIM: The Opposition councillors of Corporation of The City of Panaji on Monday bombarded Commissioner Agnelo Fernandes and Mayor Rohit Monserrate over the number of issues the State capital was facing.
In the first ordinary meeting held in the year 2021-22 after the Model Code of Conduct lifted, the CCP hall witnessed heated arguments over various issues, prominent ones being the encroachment of Panjim-Betim jetty point by casino, unclean gardens of Panjim, car attendants’ charging arbitrarily for parking, no proper traffic signages in the city, delay in issuing parking passes to the residents, anti-social activities such as smoking and drinking on the streets at night hours.
Later, various resolutions were passed, such as, for ratification of minutes of the market meeting, construction of 310 single-seater pour flush water seal latrine with twin leach pits for five users in the jurisdiction of CCP, supply of casual labourers for de-silting works as an when required for cleaning road side gutters/drains to prevent flooding within CCP jurisdiction, renovation and maintenance of garden behind Hotel Fortune, Miramar; beautification and maintenance of island (Triangle in front of PWD Electrical Tonca) on Vasudeva V Dempo Marg), reconstruction of Miramar Post Office block at St Mary Colony, Miramar; fencing along with minor repairs for Caranzalem Park, old Portuguese Rosary Church, Caranzalem; replacing dilapidated RCC at Dona Paula Jetty with new statue and replacement of approved location with new proposed location for the work of up-gradation/development of medians traffic channelise on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis with commercial advertisement display rights.
Settlement issue of National Theatre and approval for execution of lease agreement with shopkeeper of new municipal market were dissented.
“A special meeting will be held to discuss about these two issues,” formed Pramay Mainkar, councillor.
He also informed that no permission will be granted for installation of road name sign “Travessa de Delhi”.
