“We have passed a new resolution for acquiring the land owned by 2 Signals Training Centre in Panjim and this resolution will be forwarded to the government,” Panjim Mayor Shubham Chodankar said after the meeting.
CCP has been fighting to take over the land for a multi-storey car parking in a bid to decongest the city. The first resolution to take back the land was passed in 2004, and another when Surendra Furtado was mayor.
Chodankar also announced that CCP has prepared a draft of the Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules which will be forwarded to the government for enforcement.
“There were many by-laws which were not ready for the Solid Waste Management Draft. We have now prepared the draft and will forward it to the State govt,” he said.
The rules will enforce fines and notices to the people found littering in the capital city. The fines are categorized from Rs 200 to Rs 10,000 depending upon the severity of the offence. A person caught dumping garbage from a vehicle or a pedestrian found littering the place will be liable to be fined.
