PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has passed bye-laws pertaining to trade and occupation licencing, which if notified will be binding on traders and businesses within the jurisdiction.
Sources said the bye-laws include a list of proposed rates to be charged from traders and businesses as license fees and fixed penalties for defaulting to obtain permissions for setting up business.
According to the proposals, if a licence is not renewed within the stipulated time of April or May of the financial year, the defaulter is liable to pay a penalty of 25 percent of the licence fee during the first half of the year and 50 percent if the defaulter delays the renewal for more than six months.
Similarly, a fine of Rs 5000 will be levied for carrying out trade without obtaining a license and also for erecting trade business boards without licence.
CCP Commissioner Dipak Desai informed Herald that the bye-laws have been sent to the Directorate of Municipal Administration for approval. “Once the Law Department gives its consent and the rules are notified, CCP will be in a position to take action against those who act against the law,” he added.
