PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Monday approved a surplus budget of Rs 2.18 crore.
Speaking to reporters after the budget, CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate said, “Last year we had allocated Rs 4 crore from the fund from the coporation for the development of the city. This year we have increased it to Rs 7 crore.”
“House tax revenue has dropped to around Rs 3 crore. But in spite of this we have managed to have surplus of round Rs 2.18 crore. Our revenue from other services like ferries has gone up,” he said.
Monserrate said the CCP has removed advertisements from the Smart City buses as the contractor was not sharing revenue with the corporation.
“The contractor was displaying the advertisement but not sharing the revenue. Technically it was illegal. Therefore, we took down all their signages. Under the Smart City Mission the revenue was supposed to be shared by the corporation. Corporation gets blame when something goes wrong,” he said.
The total receipts of the budget estimate for the financial year 2024-25 are Rs 118.64 crore against Rs 86.77 crore provided in the revised estimate 2023-24 and actual receipts of Rs 71.97 crore in 2022-23.
