PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has notified the amendment to its Solid Waste (Management and Handling) By-Laws 2021, thus paving the way for revised sanitation charges to be collected by the door-to-door garbage collection service provider.
Individual households have to pay Rs 50 per month while “slum like households” have to pay Rs 30.
For bulk generators of waste, who are unable to process their wet waste within their premises/site, they have to pay CCP Rs 10 per kg per day in addition to door-to-door collection fees for transport and processing. Casinos are being charged the highest, having to pay Rs 75,000 per month.
Exhibitions with food stalls have to pay Rs 25,000 per day, while exhibitions of jewellery, painting and art have to pay Rs 25,000 per day.
Multiplexes have to pay Rs 12,000 per month while other cinema halls have to pay Rs 3,000 per month.
Boat cruise operators are being charged Rs 4,000 per month. The rate for removal of construction debris is Rs 3,000 per trip. There are different calculations for hotels and restaurants, which are based on the size of its area and stature. The rates can go above Rs 3,000 while the rate is Rs 600 per month. There are similar calculations for lodging, boarding and guest houses which depend on the area of the rooms to be considered. The highest rate can go above Rs 600 while the minimum charge is Rs 300.
Commercial establishments will be charged as per their overall size wherein the charge will be over Rs 750 and the lowest Rs 150.
CCP is charging Rs 700 per month to fast food vendors; Rs 600 per month to canteens; and Rs 500 for all “gaddas”.
