CCP set to replace old signages in city

PANJIM: The Corporation of City of Panjim (CCP) Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues in a recent meeting with the corporators announced that new and uniform signages of names of roads, pay parking information, traffic signboards such as those indicating speed breakers etc will soon replace the old signages in Panjim.

Rodrigues disclosed that they have arrived to a conclusion that Panjim require 1,688 signboards after meticulously mapping the entire city from a scientific point of view—such as the purpose of the signboard, in which direction it will face, etc and ‘all will have a uniform design’.

Former Mayor and corporator Surendra Furtado also appealed for additional signboards in his ward.

The corporators also informed the commissioner that they have been receiving complain regarding increasing stray dogs and pups in the road. Rodrigues admitted that there is no shelter for street dogs at present and that a new one is being built.

Referring to the Herald report about how abandoned vehicles are becoming a pain for the Police and District Magistrate, Corporator Soraya Pinto Makhiha, who has been following up on the issue, demanded that the CCP should have some role in the removal of the same.

The corporators also pointed out that Panjim residents are being asked to pay for parking in the capital city and said that the purpose of the initiative—to streamline parking and stop idle parking was not served; residents were being greatly inconvenienced as CCP was only bothered about generating revenue.

The corporators also criticised the CCP for dragging its feet on recovering the dues from the market traders.

“All tenants of shops with shutters in CCP Panjim market have done business free of cost without paying water and electricity bill since last 15 years,” alleged corporator Vaidehi Naik.
