CCP sets March 31 deadline for completion of Smart city works

Mayor Rohit Monserrate says directions issued to all departments to expedite and complete the works within next four months; refuses to accept demand to waive off parking fees as City Corporation is bound by contract

PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has been assured of the new deadline of March 31, 2023 for the completion of the Smart City works undertaken in Panjim. CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate acknowledged that all the works being undertaken at the same time has caused great inconvenience to the entire city dwellers and commuters.

Monserrate stated that the CCP realised that the people from Panjim are facing a lot of issues due to the roads and sewage works. “All of the works are happening at the same time which is causing issues. Today we had called a meeting with all the concerned departments. We have asked them to expedite and complete the works by March 31, 2023,” he informed.

The Mayor further said, “The sewage works are being done at the desired pace, however, the work of roads is slow. We have got assurance from traffic police. We have asked them to take proactive steps in easing out the issues of the people.”

Monserrate informed that the works of the balance Rs 600 cr have been undertaken in a single go with agencies including Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Limited (SIDCGL), Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), Public Works Department (PWD), Water Resource Department (WRD) and others involved in the works. “Directions have been issued to the departments and they are working at full pace,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Mayor has refused to accept the request of the former Deputy Mayor Vasant Agshikar for parking fee waiver. The latter had requested waiving of the parking fees in Panjim till all the works are completed. “It is easy to request but the CCP is bound by a contract with the pay parking contractor which doesn’t allow us to waive off,” he stated.
