PANJIM: Political analyst Trajano D’Mello has filed a petition before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Panjim, seeking directions to the Panjim police to register FIR against the CCP Commissioner Clen Madeira and the former CCP Mayor and councillor Uday Madkaikar in the alleged sopo collection scam and to direct the police to immediately conduct independent, fair and proper investigation of the facts mentioned in his complaints.
Trajano has also urged the Court to monitor the investigation and to direct the police to timely produce the progress report of the investigation before the Court.
Trajano had lodged two complaints dated May 29, 2023 and July 1, 2023 at the Panjim police station, demanding that an FIR be filed in the sopo collection scam in the CCP and to initiate action in the corrupt and illegal practices in the sopo collection scam, which is happening in the capital city for the last few years.
Trajano said that he lodged his complaint following public statements made by former CCP mayor and councillor Uday Madkaikar and Commissioner Clen Madeira exposing sopo collection scam in the Panjim market. From their statements it was clear that CCP funds had been siphoned off and misappropriated for their personal gains. Both had also misused their position in the CCP, he stated.
