PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) conducted a joint pre-monsoon inspection in flood-prone areas, such as Miramar Circle and Stella Maris Chapel area. Mayor Rohit Monserrate along with Smart City officials and Water Resource Department officials visited the various sites.
Mayor Monserrate acknowledged the persistent problem of flooding faced by Stella Maris Chapel area for over the past decade. However, the Mayor assured that the CCP is actively working towards finding a solution to this issue. He highlighted the challenges faced this year, such as the digging of roads for the Smart City works and expressed the administration’s commitment to exploring alternative methods to alleviate the problem.
Monserrate further said that CCP has collaborated with the Water Resource Department to address the flooding concerns around Stella Maris Chapel area and Miramar circle and has requested the installation of new drainage systems in these areas.
He also admitted the persistent issue of drains getting choked due to the underlying wires in the stretch from Miramar to Bal Bhavan. However, he said that efforts are underway to divert drainage as in some areas, moving these wires is not possible.
