PANJIM: CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate on Saturday said that the Corporation has decided to suspend pay parking from Sunday till May 31 due to the ongoing Smart City works.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “Starting from tomorrow till May 31, 2024, there will be no pay parking in the city of Panjim.”
Monserrate said, “In the light of the ongoing smart city work, we conducted an inspection yesterday and the plan is of speeding the pace of work so that there is no inconvenience caused to the people. We have told the contractor not to collect pay parking charges. From tomorrow to till the completion of the smart city work, there will be no obligation for anybody to pay the charges.”
The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) in January this year had approved the contract for phase three of the pay parking in the city to the same contractor as he was the highest bidder.
The Corporation had floated a tender of the Phase III pay parking, whereby competitive bids were invited by e-tender after evaluating there was a highest bidder (Sohan Juwarkar), who had quoted an amount of Rs 1.62 crore inclusive of GST. The agreement has to be executed for a period of three years.
