PANJIM: Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate along with Deputy Mayor Vasant Aghshikar, corporator Pramay Mainkar and Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues on Monday visited the Panaji municipal market and asked staff to fine those found moving in the market without wearing face masks.
After visiting the market, the CCP decided to appoint a cleaning agency to undertake one-time cleaning of all cobwebs and stains and to spruce up entire market.
The CCP mayor asked the corporator and market committee chairman Pramay Mainkar to visit the market daily so as to check cleanliness and to discuss other market matters.
During the visit, it was also decided to post a junior engineer and market inspector in the market so as to ensure that the traders do not encroach and to put an end to single-use plastic carry bags.
The CCP suspect that some traders were still using the banned plastic carry bags in the market.
The CCP has also decided to hold a meeting with the Panjim Market Traders Association to discuss and solve their pending issues.
The CCP had recently cleared the outstanding electricity and water bills of the municipal market by opting for the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme and is now is the process of finalising the lease agreement with the traders.
