PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has decided to rehabilitate the 17 food kiosks, which were removed from the designated area in the city market for failing to maintain hygiene.
The CCP has also warned of cancelling the licences of all the food kiosks, spread across the city, if they fail to maintain hygiene along with adopting measures like No Smoking and No Splitting Zones.
CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar on Tuesday held a meeting with all 92 food kiosk owners, who are provided licences by the corporation. During the meeting it was decided that the 17 gaddas would be shifted to a new place in different areas of the city.
Speaking to HERALD post meeting, Madkaikar said that Town and Vending Committee of the corporation will be meeting shortly to finalise the new place to relocate these kiosks.
“The Don Bosco school principal and parents have raised strong objection to allowing these kiosks in the earlier marked area, near the school. So, we have decided to rehabilitate them,” he said.
The food kiosks were removed earlier this month after they failed to maintain hygiene. CCP had received complaints from people about a foul smell emanating from the drains. Upon inspection the CCP officials found the entire area dirty and that the food was served in such conditions.
“We have directed all the food cart owners to maintain proper hygiene as prescribed by Food and Drugs Administration, failing to do so will result in cancellation of trade licence,” he said.
