PANJIM: The general body of the Corporation of City of Panaji employees union at its meeting on Tuesday resolved to withdraw their month-long strike. CCP had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the union to resolve the workers’ pending demands.
The employees union headed by Ajitsingh Rane had been demanding an increase in the daily wages from Rs 221 to Rs 409; however both parties had later come to an agreement on Rs 323, which was the minimum wage stipulated by the state.
Other demands of regularization of workers and payment of eight days strike wages were also resolved in the MoU.
Speaking earlier to Herald, Rane had said, “Garbage collection in the city is on. The workers started collecting garbage on the day of the settlement.”
The decision on the strike came after hours of discussion at the general body meeting of the union which ended late Tuesday evening.
