It is imminent to activate CCTV vigil following the reportedly rise in crime across Goa, especially against women.
Dutifully 52 CCTV cameras were installed in 2013 on MPLAD funds when Francisco Sardinha’s was a Member of Parliament (MP). Some spots such as the main city roundabout, Varunapuri junction, Headland Sada junction, Mangor Hill junction, Joshi Square, F.L. Gomes road, Baina area CCTV cameras were among the first few prime locations that got the cameras installed. However, they are out of order owing to irregular maintenance.
When contacted, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said that he has spoken about the CCTV cameras issue with the MP Francisco Sardinha few months ago and had suggested that the CCTV cameras need to be maintained. “The Mormugao Municipal Council should write a letter to the MP asking for repair or additional installation of CCTV cameras wherever required since these cams are installed via MPLAD scheme,” said Almeida.
