During the inauguration of the Department of Archives’ new premises at Kadamba Plateau, Minister Subhash Phal Desai emphasized the implementation of heightened security measures to prevent document tampering. He announced the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras as an immediate step toward safeguarding archive documents until the digitalization process is completed.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Phal Desai underscored the crucial need to protect historical records, citing the imminent threat posed by potential tampering. He assured that once the archives are fully digitized, the risk of document tampering would significantly diminish.
The relocation of the Archaeology Department to the new premises was necessitated due to the vulnerability of the previous location in Panjim, prone to annual flooding during monsoons, endangering centuries-old archives. The new premises, comprising 2500 square meters rented at the Alcon Building’s third floor in Kadamba Plateau.
However, Minister Phal Desai acknowledged that accommodating the Archaeology Department within this space was challenging, requiring an additional 300 square meters. He assured that the government is actively seeking suitable space to meet the department’s specific requirements.
