VALPOI: In a bid to deter miscreants from dumping of garbage in the village, Pissurlem panchayat has commenced installing CCTVs to keep a tab on the violators. The work of installing the cameras began from Friday in the presence of Honda ZP member Sagun Wadkar.
Pissurlem panchayat area is divided into 7 wards where many villagers dump piles of domestic waste out in the open and get away without facing any action. It became a cause of concern for locals as it was creating a bad image of the otherwise idyllic village.
The panchayat has now decided to install cameras to penalise the violators. The garbage disposed of in the open also attracts stray cattle which poses a threat to the traffic in the village.
It may be noted that sanitation worker Rasika Khandeparkar from the panchayat was awarded at the hands of the country’s President for her services. Pissurlem panchayat in the last 15 years has gained a reputation of being the cleanest panchayat in Sattari taluka.
“Garbage is one of the issues which, if left ignored, gradually becomes the most difficult to battle with. Hence, timely precaution is of utmost importance. Panchayat has installed solar cameras on an experimental basis and we appeal locals to cooperate with us in this initiative. Otherwise, the violators will be penalised,” said sarpanch Devanand Parab.
