CCTVs to watch rto staff
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, JAN 8
The Transport Department staff will now have to be wary of a third eye that will keep a constant watch on their behaviour and activities during office hours.
Transport Director Arun Desai said that all the RTO offices will now have Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed which will grab frame by frame account of the staff and the people coming to the offices.
He said that these cameras would be in place within a fortnight which will help to keep a visual record of things happening in the RTO offices.
“The watch will be on both, employees as well as public”, he said.
The Department will also connect all its border check posts to the main office in Panjim via Goa Broadband, an ambitious project launched in 2008 by Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
Desai said that this connectivity will help to maintain online record of the revenue collected on the border check posts. The Department also expects to curb the revenue leakages on its border after the connectivity is in place.
Also, the border check posts will have CCTV cameras so that all the vehicles entering and exiting the State will be recorded on it. “The entire system would be connected to the head office”, he said
Bringing discipline in RTO offices, the Department has also decided to start bar coding system within a fortnight for the staff. They will have to give their thumb impression every time they enter and move out of the office.
The Department will also implement file management system so that the status of the file could be known at just a click of a button.
