VASCO: While slamming Mormugao Municipal Council for neglecting its own building, the concerned citizens of Vasco have demanded that the civic body should act responsibly to ensure that all municipal buildings lying in dilapidated and dangerous condition should be taken up for repairs on priority.
The concerned citizens were reacting after a portion of ceiling inside the Pushpagandha superstore (branch of Goa Sahakar Bhandar) which is located in the municipality owned building collapsed, triggering fear among the staff and other citizens using the store for facility. Luckily no one was injured in the incident.
“It appears that the Mormugao Municipal Council has been waiting for a tragedy to happen and then to react. Luckily the portion of the ceiling collapsed during night; had it to happen during the day, then, the situation would have been different,” said Nazir Khan, a businessman from Vasco.
“When we inquired with the staff working at Goa Sahakar Bhandar, they informed that the civic body has not taken up repairs/maintenance works in the premises due to rent dues which is incorrect as the premises belongs to municipality and they cannot shy away from their responsibility,” he said.
Similar concerns were raised by other citizens from Vasco who also demanded that the civic body should immediately take up repair/maintenance works of Pushpagandha superstore building as well as other municipality owned buildings.
