MARGAO: Former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, who is in judicial custody at the Sada sub-jail has moved for anticipatory bail before South Goa Fast Track Court fearing arrest in the alleged seizure of a cell phone in his jail cell.
On February 23, jail superintendent Gaurish Sankhawalkar, who is also Mormugao deputy collector, during a surprise check had seized seven mobiles from some prison cells. Later, the prison authorities claimed that one of these mobiles was in possession of Tejpal, who has cried foul alleging manipulation by the government authorities.
In his bail application, Tejpal stated that he is innocent and is not at all involved in the crime, adding that he has no knowledge nor is in any way connected with the mobiles seizure. He further said that there are other prisoners in the cell occupied by him who have not been penalized because of seizure of the mobiles.
The anticipatory bail application will come up for hearing on March 11 before the Fast Track Court Judge Vandana Tendulkar. Tejpal is being represented by lawyer
