Cellular phones prohibited

PANJIM, APRIL 11 The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued an order on prohibition of cellular phones, cordless phones, wireless sets inside the polling stations and counting centres and also in the 100 metres perimeter of the polling stations described as the 'Polling station neighbourhood' during the general election of the Lok Sabha 2009.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued an order on prohibition of cellular phones, cordless phones, wireless sets inside the polling stations and counting centres and also in the 100 metres perimeter of the polling stations described as the ‘Polling station neighbourhood’ during the general election of the Lok Sabha 2009.
The order stated that, these restrictions, however, will not apply to the officers-in-charge of law and orders and security personnel put on duty as well as observer or Micro observer appointed by the Commission and the Presiding officer in charge of polling station.
These officers are advised to keep their mobile or cellular phones in switch off mode and will switch on and use only for communicating with the sector officers in case of necessity and emergency.
