Centenary Dindi festival from Nov 14

MARGAO, NOV 10 Margao's famous Dindi festival, which is celebrating its centenary year this year, will commence from November 14 morning at the Hari Mandir Temple.

Margao’s famous Dindi festival, which is celebrating its centenary year this year, will commence from November 14 morning at the Hari Mandir Temple.
The main Dindi celebrations will be held in the city on November 19 and the celebrations will finally culminate on Nov 20.
Briefing newsmen after a meeting with officials of various government departments, Chairman of the Dindi festival celebration committee, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said that outstation artists will perform during the Dindi celebrations this year.
“The Dindi celebrations will begin on November 14 at 10 and the celebrations will culminate on November 20. A host of religious and cultural activities has been chalked out to make the celebrations a grand success”, he added.
Unlike last year, the Chief Minister said the authorities will earmark certain areas for the sale of traditional sweets in the city. Sale of the traditional sweets was banned last year as a security measure as the Dindi festival has come just days after the Margao bomb blasts on the eve of Diwali festival.
“This year, certain areas near the post office, Abade Faria road and near Vithal Mandir has been earmarked for sale of sweets”, Kamat said.
He said the main Dindi festival will be celebrated on November 19 evening with the Palki procession of Lord Vithal Rukhamaye from  Hari Mandir, which would wend its way through the traditional route, before culminating at Hari Mandir the following day.
Replying to a question, he said the government departments are aware of their role and responsibilities during the Dindi festival, adding that the meeting was held only to chalk out program for the much-awaited religious celebration.
