BICHOLIM: Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday stated that the Central government “is working on solving the mining issue and give relief to the mining ban affected people by the end of October.”
Addressing a BJP yuva morcha rally in Bicholim, Dr Sawant said, “During our recent visit to Delhi, our delegation met the principal secretary to the PM as the latter was in a foreign country. We have put forth several options to the secretary and he has given positive response to our suggestions.”
He said that several options including that of issuing an Ordinance, review petition in the Supreme Court or getting some relief from the State or Central government; all these options were discussed with the principal secretary.
“The principal secretary told us that we would be called for another meeting in the near future and has assured us that the mining problem would be resolved. The Central government would work towards solving this issue by October,” Dr Sawant said.
He also acknowledged that there are several families in Bicholim and Sattari affected by the mining closure, which needs immediate attention.
