PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday announced that a Centre of Excellence and Central Government Research Cell will be set up for Konkani.
Speaking after inaugurating a Konkani workshop in the city, the Chief Minister said citizens should have the flexibility to do official communication with Goa government in Konkani and Marathi along with English.
“Official communication with the government need not be held only in English. Government offices will respond to citizens writing to them in Konkani and Marathi,” he said.
He pointed out that Konkani has been made compulsory for those candidates who appear for Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations and papers too are available in Konkani.
He pointed out that even Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha require Konkani translators, Sawant exhorted the students to learn Konkani and start practice of writing.
