PANJIM: Union Minister of State (MoS) of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shobha Karandlaje and the State Agriculture Department stated that the Centre will support Goa’s plans of establishing an integrated Agriculture University in Goa.
“The Integrated agriculture university is needed in Goa and will happen soon. The Centre is also keen on setting up such a university. The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to extend all the requisite assistance in setting up this Agriculture and Horticulture College in Goa,” said Karandlaje, while addressing media persons along with Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar following a review meeting convened by her.
“We are also laying emphasis on instituting an integrated institution for Agri-Fisheries-Dyring, in Goa,” she added.
Furthermore, she said Centre will help Goa in increasing its local agriculture related produce.
“In the next three years, we will help make Goa self-sufficient in milk and vegetable availability,” said the MoS.
All the agriculture schemes sponsored by the Central government in Goa were reviewed at the State level at the meeting, which also saw discussions on other issues related to agriculture in the State. Directions were also given to the concerned officers for smooth implementation of farmer welfare schemes in Goa.
“I chaired the State review meeting of all the centrally sponsored agriculture schemes in Goa and discussed numerous issues of the sector in the state. Along with Goa Agriculture Minister Chandrakant Kalekar, I called on the concerned officials to fix the delivery of farmers’ welfare schemes. I also pointed out the implementation of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi in Goa and ways to resolve the lag encountered in Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT),” she added while elaborating about her meeting at the secretariat on Thursday morning.
She also inquired about the ‘Atmanirbhar Krishi’ implementation in Goa.
On Wednesday evening, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with Kavlekar held a meeting with her at the CM’s Altinho Residence. “We discussed various issues regarding farmer support and welfare and Agriculture in Goa,” said Sawant.
