PANJIM: The State government has urged the Centre not to introduce National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to Ayurvedic and Homeopathy courses this coming academic year. In a letter to AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar requested to allow Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) for students intending to appear either of the two courses along with candidates appearing for other professional courses.
The letter comes in wake of a circular from the Union Ministry of AYUSH stating that admissions to Ayurvedic and homeopathy seats will take place through NEET in 2017. “The government has urged AYUSH ministry to postpone NEET for next year. Let students in future get ample time to prepare for the national level competitive exams,” a senior government official said.
This year admissions to MBBS and postgraduate and diploma programmes offered at the Goa Medical College will take place based on the NEET. MBBS admissions at GMC until 2016 were carried out based on the state’s CET scores while admissions to the PG seats at GMC were based on final year MBBS scores of the students. Goa joined NEET after a request to the Centre last year to postpone it for 2017.
