‘Centre’s share will help ZPs’

PANJIM: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday said the increase in States’ share of central taxes to 42 percent from the current 32 percent will help Goa as it will particularly improve the financial status of Zilla Panchayats.

With the Narendra Modi-government accepting the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission, Goa’s annual share for the coming financial year will be raised to over Rs 2,000 crore from the existing Rs 700 to 800 crore, he said. As per the increased devolution, States will have greater autonomy in financing and designing of schemes
as per their needs and               requirements.
