While the entire Panjim city has been buzzing of criticism for cutting trees, an age old tree opposite the Excise department in Altinho, Panjim has become a reason for distress. With Iron rods and numerous nails pierced into the tree trunk the tree is in a state of profound deterioration.
Despite being in a close proximity to the government office, there has been utter lack of action from the responsible authorities, who have chosen to ignore this pressing issue. In the ongoing removal of trees in the Smart City has given rise to lot of criticism. However, the tree near Excise Department has become a cause of concern.
Goa which is known as the land of beaches and greenery, is currently witnessing a rise in tree felling. The environmentalists on Friday protested in larger against the felling of two age-old trees by the Smart City project officials. Now the plight of this tree, opposite Excise Department at Altinho in Panjim is disheartening. It’s evident that this deterioration is not a result of natural causes but rather human-made. Around 25 sharp nails with two iron rods have been pierced into the tree trunk by the miscreants.
Panjim, the capital of Goa, houses most of the main offices of various government departments and is observing the destruction of nature. Concerned people have said that in spite of being in close proximity to the government office, there has been a lamentable lack of action from the responsible authorities, who have seemingly chosen to ignore this pressing issue.
