PANJIM: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has given a clean chit to the Chief Minister in connection to the complaint that alleged the State government and BJP party violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by seeking to obtain unlawful political mileage at the cost of late Manohar Parrikar, by organizing various functions in the memory of the deceased.
The complainant Aires Rodrigues had alleged government machinery was used to conduct the functions in the memory of the former CM like the ‘Asthi Kalash’ programme. He said the condolence meetings held across Goa in memory of Parrikar were infact BJP campaign meetings and that the party, by ferrying his ashes across the Statem was trying to illegally bolster the image of the party.
After conducting a detaiedl inquiry, the CEO has said that as per the submission made by the General Administrative department ,government machinery was not used for the Asthi Kalash programme nor for condolence meeting or for dignitaries visiting Parrikar’s residence, post demise. She added that the collector North and South has also reported that the programme did not violate the MCC; and that the CMhad not made any statement or indulged in any activity that could invoke religious disharmony and hatred amongst people.
