PANJIM: The Chief Electoral Office (CEO) has ordered an inquiry into how hundreds of EPIC cards were dumped alongside a road in Margao. Photos of the cards were uploaded on social media sites and have been receiving a huge response from people.
Joint CEO Narayan Navti said that the South Goa district Collector has been asked to conduct a study and submit a report within 48 hours. “A first look at the pictures indicates that these are old EPIC cards. However, we will be able to comment in detail only after the report from district Collector comes. Even if they are old, they should not be dumped alongside the road or in dustbins,” Navti said.
He added, “This is something serious and thorough investigation is needed.” Goa Forward (GF) Party had raised an alarm on Wednesday when nearly 500 EPIC cards were found in a gutter on the road near the old railway station in Margao. The party had suspected foul play and petitioned the CEO demanding action against those involved in the mischief.
The State is gearing up for the 2017 Assembly elections and has commenced a summary revision of voters. The deletion, addition and inclusion of new voters in the electoral roll, process is on. The final voters list will be published on January 5, next year.
