PANJIM: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) is examining the report submitted by the North Goa District Election Officer (DEO) on the complaint by Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte alleging illegal enrollment of around 820 names of people from North Eastern States in the electoral roll of Porvorim assembly constituency.
Khaunte, local Porvorim MLA, had last month filed a complaint before the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) seeking immediate investigation into the alleged illegal enrollment of people from North East states, working in casinos, into the electoral roll. A police complaint in this regard has also been lodged.
The DEO has submitted report to CEO on Monday after compiling the details submitted by Mamlatdar of Mapusa and Porvorim on the enrollment.
Additional CEO Narayan Sawant said that the report is been examined for further necessary action. “We are examining the report. The action will be followed after going through the report,” he said.
Sawant, however, clarified that though the applications for enrollment were made, some were rejected on several grounds like lack of documents. “Those having valid documents, their applications were accepted. Some applicants, even withdrew their applications,” he said.
“But, still we have to examine the report,” Sawant added.
Following complaint by Khaunte, several people, who were enrolled, had rushed to Mapusa Mamlatdar office with an affidavit seeking deletion of their names from the electoral roll.
