VASCO: Vasco Police on Sunday arrested a waiter from Nagpur on charges of stealing a gold chain from a woman near St Andrew’s Church Vasco.
According to the victim, Saverina Correia, after attending evening mass at St Andrew’s Church Vasco, she was talking to the priest near the church gate when the accused snatched gold chain from her neck and fled from the site.
Corriea said she tried to chase the chain snatcher, but luckily some young boys, who noticed her chasing the man, ran after the chain snatcher and caught him near the city bus stand near St Andrew’s Church junction.
Correia further informed that the boys recovered the chain and gave a sound thrashing to the accused before handing him to Vasco Police. Vasco Police said the accused Santosh Gupta was working as a waiter at a city hotel. Vasco Police arrested Gupta under Sections 679 and 511 and PSI Gautam Salonke is investigating the case.
