MARGAO:  The Goa police seems to  be groping in the dark as robbers involved in chain snatching strike at will as two women became the latest victims while returning from a Church and Temple in Salcete in the last two days.
On Sunday, a 79-year old woman Yashoda Chari was robbed of her gold chain by two motorcycle borne miscreants at Panzorconne-Cuncolim on the NH-17 while she was returning home after from a Temple. The incident is believed to have occurred when Yashoda was rushing home at around 2 pm from the Temple as her relative back home had fallen ill. On the way near the junction, the two miscreants wearing helmets pounced on the senior citizen to rob her of her gold ornaments. While they succeeded in snatching her gold chain, their attempt to remove her bangles came to nought after she raised an alarm. In the bargain, the victim has sustained injuries on her hand.
Sources said a woman from Fatorda became a victim of the miscreants after they snatched her chain while returning home from the early morning mass.
Police stations in Margao sub-division, including Cuncolim, Margao, Colva and Maina Curtorim had in the reported a number of chain snatching incidents, especially of senior citizens heading for the early morning mass.
Cuncolim police itself has reported over half-a-dozen robbery cases involving women, but a breakthrough has so far eluded the police force till date.
