QUEPEM: Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) on Tuesday decided to allow the Chanderi Utsav to be held in the town but with some restrictions.
This year, the CCMC has put some restrictions, as this year, instead of holding the festival on Christmas Day, the Chanderi Utsav will be held on December 26 and the residents of Curchorem will now be allowed to put up stalls.
However, the civic body appeared visibly upset as the organisers Dayanand Kala Kendra were not present for the discussions. A special meeting was called by the council to discuss the festival issue and MLA Nilesh Cabral, councillors and the organisers were invited for the meeting. Dayanand Kala Kendra has been organising this festival for the last four years.
Nilesh Cabral and some councillors demanded that local people be allotted some space by the organisers in the interest of locals including to sell sweets and other wares.
CCMC chairman Pradeep Naik admitted that there were some differences, but assured that all issues were resolved and there was no hindrance in organising the festival this year.
The festival will be organised from December 26 to January 9 at Curchorem, he said.
Disclosing that there will be cultural programmes and various stalls including some for games and entertainment, Pradeep assured that the council will check all the documents properly.
Earlier the festival was organised on government land, this time it will be held in municipal premises and there was a demand from some businessmen that the festival should not be held during the Christmas season as it adversely affects their business.
