Chandor-Cavorim panchayat files police complaint over missing land records

MARGAO: The Chandor-Cavorim village panchayat convened a meeting where two crucial decisions were made. Firstly, it was resolved to file a police complaint regarding missing documents from the panchayat’s office, and secondly, to forward a set of suggestions for the draft Agriculture Policy.

The police complaint pertains to the absence of PWD-approved plans for the sub-division of a plot within the village, a document that is conspicuously absent from the panchayat’s records. The decision to lodge a complaint followed a resolution passed during a recent gram sabha meeting, where concerns over the missing records were raised.

In the formal complaint submitted to the South Goa Police headquarters, Panchayat Secretary Narayan Azgaonkar detailed the situation. He mentioned receiving an order from the State Information Commission (SIC) instructing the panchayat to furnish the sub-divisional plan. Despite thorough searches of the panchayat’s records, neither he nor his predecessor, Shrisail S Pattanshetti, could locate the plan. The SIC, recognising the seriousness of the matter, directed Azgaonkar to file a police complaint, which has now been initiated.

P’yat compiles list of 26 suggestions for draft Agriculture Policy

The panchayat submitted a comprehensive list of 26 suggestions to the Agriculture Department regarding the draft agriculture policy. These suggestions encompassed various aspects, emphasising the need for substantial improvements in the policy’s content to make it successful, sustainable, and beneficial for the State, especially for stakeholders in the agricultural sector. Concerns were also raised about the absence of crucial data, such as information on cultivated land and crops. These concerns and suggestions were originally discussed during a special gram sabha meeting, during which a committee was formed to gather feedback and suggestions from the community.
