MARGAO: Due to rise in number of COVID cases, the Village Panchayat of Chandor Cavorim on Monday decided to keep the market complex closed for five days.
Sarzora Village Panchayat has shut the access to Sarzora Lake while Ramnagari area in Curtorim has voluntarily kept the commercial establishments closed.
Chandor Cavorim Panchayat sarpanch informed that the villagers that due to increase in number of COVID cases in the neighbouring village demanded to close the market complex from June 23 till June 27. The sarpanch maintains that most of the vendors in their market complex are from Curtorim, which is one of the infected areas and there is likelihood of community transmission.
The sarpanch said, “During the lockdown, the designated sanitisation team will sanitise the market complex and the surrounding areas.”
The Sarzora Panchayat has put up a “No Entry” signboard at entry road of the lake because of this pandemic situation. But even after stopping the entry, the people still started entering from the sides. Police were called many times. The villagers accompanied the police and the one without masks were fined.
Meanwhile, Ramnagri area which falls under the Curtorim Constituency kept all the commercial establishments closed on Monday as a voluntary lockdown. The increased cases in Curtorim have prompted the people to observe this voluntary lockdown.
