MARGAO:  The delegation of people from Chandor and Guirdolim submitted a memorandum signed by nearly 100 villagers to the Maina Curtorim PI Pravinkumar Vast demanding intensified patrolling and better policing.
Maina Curtorim police inspector Pravinkumar Vast assured a delegation that he will convene a meeting with them with regards to their demand to improve policing.
The villagers recalled the January 21, 2018 assault on one Benny Mascarenhas wherein they claimed that the police personnel who were called to the crime site by the victim’s minor son failed to nab the culprits and let them go scot free despite assaulting a constable too.
“Even though one of the constables had blood all over his uniform, the police personnel instead of nabbing the assailants let them run away from the site,” claimed Benny’s wife Sita.
Three youth from the village, who were apparently under the influence of alcohol, assaulted Benny when he was taking his son to school. After fleeing from the site they went underground and later surrendered to the police after seeking anticipatory bail.
When the villagers demanded that simple complaints be accepted at the outpost instead of making people travel all the way to Margao, the inspector said this decision will have to be taken by the government as his police station is at present understaffed.
“The personnel at Chandor outpost should improve their contacts with the villagers and a system similar to the LIB set up in places like Margao needs to be started in Chandor too,” said Darwin Cardoso from Guirdolim.
“I shall convene a meeting of the villagers with my personnel in the village but only after the Shigmo festival,” said PI Vast adding that the villagers should inform the police on the various spots where the youth visit to consume alcohol.
