MARGAO: The Chandor-Cavorim village panchayat has resolved to desilt and rejuvenate various water channels and water bodies in the village at the extra-ordinary Gram Sabha called to prepare action plan for Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
Many villagers attended the meeting, which proved that people are interested in protecting their village.
Cavorim has a big lake Oilem Tollem, water of which was used for the purpose irrigating agricultural fields in the past.
Since the Comunidade of Cavorim is the owner and is not financially sound to fortify the lake the Gram Sabha demanded that the lake be rebuilt and de-silted under the Abhiyan plan.
The Bhindimoll area of Cavorim has a nullah (vholl) which flows into the Kushawati River. The need for desilting the vholl has also been expressed by the villagers.
The gram sabha also raised concerns over the Paroda canal passing through the village which is badly damaged, the water of which causes floods on the main road during heavy rain. The panchayat has resolved to ask the WRD to undertake repairs of the canal.
The gram sabha has also demanded that the bundhs from Cotta need to be mentioned in the Abhiyan plan for repairs.
