MARGAO: Chandor Cavorim panchayat has decided to undertake a door-to-door survey of the inhabitants of the village to gather as much of data as possible while adhering to the Directorate of Panchayat directive to carry out a survey of the village for evolving a concrete plan for garbage management.
It may be recalled that the National Green Tribunal has directed the State government to have a proper garbage management system in panchayats and municipal councils and acting on this direction the Director of Panchayats has asked the village panchayats to prepare a plan.
At the meeting in Chandor, it was decided to engage college students who will now be on holidays to conduct the survey by visiting each and every household and marking those houses where nobody is present.
The panchayat members of that particular ward are to accompany the college students who will be conducting the survey and will be paid an honorarium for carrying out the work.
The Census data and survey data conducted recently to rid off the village of open defecation will be used as a support for the survey and additional information will be collected.
Besides age, ailments and other info such as govt schemes, number of vehicles and livestock will be collected.
“This is an opportunity for us to collect information to prepare a data base for a proper planning in future,” said John Douglas Coutinho, chairman of the Village Waste Management Committee.
