MARGAO: Even as the seven working day notice given by the villagers of Chandor to the Collector to implement its earlier order banning heavy traffic plying through the village ended on Wednesday, the Collector is still awaiting a report from the Transport Department while the villagers are awaiting action from the Collector.
On November 13, the villagers had submitted a memorandum to the Collector pointing out that vide Order dated September 11, 2008, the collector had banned heavy vehicles passing through Chandor for the safety of the people.
Further vide Order No 37/6/2008/MAG/2100 dated November 10, 2008 the Collector had banned heavy vehicles from plying on one of the roads in the village from Alma Khuris at Cavorim to St Tiago Chapel at Cotta.
Collector Anjali Sehrawat informed that she had sought a report from the Transport Department in this matter. “The report has not yet come and I shall take whatever action is necessary only once the report comes,” she said.
Meanwhile, former Guirdolim sarpanch and convener of the villagers Agostinho Antao said a meeting would be convened before the weekend to plan out an educational drive to sensitise the people and truck owners about the Collector’s order.
“We have to let the truck owners know that entry of heavy vehicles is prohibited in the village,” he said adding that the awareness campaign will last for about a week and will be supported with banners and posters put up at strategic places.
The Co-Convener Domnick Mendes however said they still had confidence in the Collector.
