Chandrayaan-3 Nears Lunar Orbit Insertion Milestone

ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft has achieved a significant milestone in its lunar expedition. Launched on July 14, the spacecraft has covered two-thirds of the distance to the Moon, travelling approximately 2.6 lakh kilometres as of August 4, according to the latest update from ISRO.

The most crucial phase of the mission, Lunar Orbit Insertion, is scheduled for August 5th around 7 PM. During this critical manoeuvre, the spacecraft will enter the Moon’s sphere of influence, commencing its moon-centric phase of the journey.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission, valued at $77 million, is driven by three primary objectives set by ISRO. Firstly, it aims to execute a safe landing near the South Pole of the lunar surface. Secondly, the spacecraft will deploy a rover to explore the lunar terrain and conduct scientific experiments. Finally, over the course of 14 days, the rover will demonstrate its operational capabilities while conducting various scientific investigations.
