Mismanagement in appointing the staff for the counting of votes raised uproar amongst the teachers who were called for the counting duty and later dismissed their duties with no proper prior notice. Maximum teachers were told that their names have been deleted from the list when they arrived at the counting centre in Panjim.
On Tuesday, the counting centre for North Goa at Polytechnic College, Panjim turned into a crowded chaos as more than 70 staff appointed for the counting duties were called off from the responsibility. These staff were school teachers from inner regions of Valpoi, Sattari and Bicholim, leaving their work as teachers and travelling to Panjim. Despite going through the vigorous travelling and being present on time, the teachers were informed that their names were deleted from the list.
The teachers claim that at least an SMS message from the authorities should have been sent to the teachers 24 hours before the main event. “We have been waiting here since morning and are still struggling to find our names. There is a complete failure of management. The management is confused and no proper facility is arranged. In this crowd, the officials informed us that they will cross-examine the list but there are no updates,” said one of the staff members waiting for an update till noon.
The teachers lamented that they were not provided with any food as there was a huge queue and no seating arrangements were also made for them. The lack of insufficient food and seating arrangements infuriated the teachers who were questioning the authorities but received no response.
