PANJIM: In an unprecedented turn of events, over 50 gauncars staged a walkout during the Tivim Comunidade election on Sunday, citing lack of confidence in the candidates and alleging widespread mismanagement.

The meeting, held at Livrament Hall, was marred by chaos, with locals accusing officials of procedural lapses and fraudulent practices. Some gauncars were reportedly barred from voting, while others found their names unexpectedly cancelled.
Allegations of fake ID cards being used during the entry process further fuelled the anger. Locals expressed frustration over rules being selectively enforced and accused the administration of undermining the fairness of the election.
Speaking to reporters, a gauncar said, “We staged a walkout because no justice is being served here. Their aim is to sell our land for Rs 1.4 per sqm.”
The gauncar said, “There are many people who have come from far off areas, but they have been deprived of attending the meeting.”
Another gauncar said, “I am feeling rejected and dejected. As gauncar from Tivim, I have come all the way from Panjim to fight for our properties, but to see how the meeting is being conducted is a shame. We talk about democracy, but this is a very sad story. The way they brought people inside without checking was shocking.”
“I can recognise anybody being Goenkars. But here people were not being checked. So what is the use of this, counting hands. It is stupid way of conducting a meeting. We will not agree to it,” he said.
