Chaos in Margao; final carcades rehearsal blocks traffic for 2 hrs

The traffic along the route opposite new District Hospital to Old Market circle and ahead was blocked drawing the ire of locals and commuters; Many students, an ambulance were caught up in the jam

MARGAO: Chaos reigned supreme in Margao as traffic was blocked for around two hours during the final rehearsal of carcades for the Brazil Russia India China and South Africa (BRICS) Summit on Thursday.
The traffic in Margao and especially along the route opposite new District Hospital to Old Market circle and ahead was blocked for two hours drawing the ire of locals and commuters.
Vehicles were caught up in the blockade, which resulted in tempers running high among the motorists.
Worst affected were Madel residents as the two main accesses to these areas were blocked during the final rehearsal.
Many students, who on their way back home, too were caught up in the traffic for hours.
An ambulance was also reportedly stuck in the traffic jam.
A Madel resident commuting along the route said, “We are not opposed to the VVIP movement on the roads but this could have been done with proper planning.”
“We should have been intimated about the rehearsal and we would have avoided the route”, the resident added.
The rehearsal along the routes designated for the vehicles for VIPs started in the morning and continued till afternoon as the carcades as big as the originals practiced the last trip.
The entire team started from the Airport proceeded to Birla Junction, Nuvem Junction, Margao, Colva and then to summit hotel venue in Mobor.
Margao Traffic Police Inspector Mohan Gawde said, “The VIP movement from Friday (October 14) will be much simplified as we won’t be stopping traffic for too long.”
