Panchayat resolves to file police complaint against a villagers for allegedly disturbing peace during the gram sabha

MARGAO: Uproarious scenes were witnessed at the Navelim panchayat on Sunday with personal remarks, leading to heated exchanges and ultimately turning physical between a gram sabha member and some panchas.

A tense situation unfolded at the gram sabha of the Village Panchayat of Navelim on Sunday, marked by confusion and disputes among the members present. However the panchayat body has decided to take action against one of its members Agnelo D’Costa, for allegedly disturbing the peaceful conduct of the meeting. 

The panchayat resolved to file a formal complaint against Agnelo D’Costa and intends to initiate proceedings to prohibit him from attending future gram sabha meetings.

As informed by the panchayat, the tense situation escalated into physical altercations between the Carneiro brothers and Agnelo D’Costa during deliberations on village matters. The conflict reportedly stemmed from personal remarks, leading to heated exchanges and ultimately turning physical.

The Carneiro brothers alleged that the concerned member, Agnelo D’Costa, made personal remarks during the gram sabha. However, the situation was later diffused when other villagers present intervened and calmed down the tense atmosphere.   

Paul Pereira, a panchayat member, stated that the panchayat body has taken a serious noteof the incident and has resolved to file a police complaint against Agnelo D’Costa for allegedly disturbing the peace during the gram sabha.

“Yes, he made personal remarks at other gram sabha members, which is completely unacceptable. His behaviour was noted as disruptive to the meeting,” claimed Paul. 

On the other hand, the Village Panchayat of Navelim, during its gram sabha, passed a resolution to issue notices to the owners of the chicken center regarding the improper disposal of chicken waste. 

Reports indicated that chicken waste was discovered dumped in isolated areas, including near the rivulet in Navelim.

Villagers expressed concern regarding the dumping of chicken waste and demanded immediate action against those responsible.

The gram sabha also passed resolutions to tackle traffic congestion during school hours in Navelim. They decided to write to the traffic cell requesting the deployment of additional traffic police to manage the congestion effectively. Furthermore, the panchayat will communicate with local educational institutions, urging them to establish parking facilities on their premises.
