MARGAO: Even as Colva Police have asserted that they would file a charge sheet against the five persons booked for brutally assaulting Vivian Maverick Martins from Colva on July 5, 2019, the victim has demanded that they be booked for attempt to murder under Section 307 of IPC.
On July 5, when Vivian was seated with his friends at a popular restaurant cum bistro in Benaulim, five persons namely Magnus Pereira, Franco Pereira, David Fernandes, Proctor D’Melo and Roy D’Souza attacked him brutally and Vivian was saved only due to the intervention of the owner of the restaurant and some other people.
They kicked Vivian viciously on his face due to which he had to undergo to surgeries and only when they lifted a chair to hit him on the face, the owner and others intervened and saved Vivian as the assailants fled from the scene.
Vivian was first rushed to Hospicio from where he was shifted to Goa Medical College as the injuries were severe and at GMC he underwent a surgery to repair his broken nose. However, he got discharged from GMC and got admitted to a private hospital in Margao where he underwent another facial surgery to repair his fractured jaw bone and was discharged from the hospital only on Sunday.
Police have booked the accused for being part of unlawful assembly, rioting and causing grievous hurt under Sections 143, 147 and 325 of the Indian Penal Code. But Vivian is now asking the police to also book them under Section 307 of the IPC which is attempt to murder.
What is surprising is that the cause for the attack is still not known and apparently one of the assailants phoned Vivian to apologise for the act which he claimed was done under the influence of alcohol.
