PANJIM: The District and Sessions Court has ordered to frame charges against suspended head constable Vaman Naik for his alleged involvement in the police-prostitutes-pimp nexus case.
Naik and two other suspended policemen ~ Santosh Vengurlekar and Vijay Gaikwad have been charge sheeted under various non-bailable offences after two sex workers had told a government rehabilitation panel, that the policemen sexually exploited them.
One of the girls had claimed she is an eyewitness to the incident wherein a policeman sodomised a transgender in Calangute.
An FIR under sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 384 (extortion), 385 (putting person in fear of injury) read with 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code, Immoral (Traffic) Prevention Act, 1956 and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered in November 2012.
Naik had surrendered before the Crime Branch sleuths this January after escaping arrest for nearly 45 days. His eight bail applications have been rejected so far while the ninth bail application was withdrawn in the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
The Court directed the Trial Court to hear the case on daily basis and conclude the hearing within six months.
