Chargesheet filed against Aires

Social activist Adv Aires Rodrigues has been charge sheeted by the Goa Police under the controversial Section 506 of Indian Penal Code.
The charge sheet has been filed in connection with an agitation he was leading against a religious person in 2004. His attempt to pursue the case was scuttled by the then (BJP) government. Interestingly, the DGP was unceremoniously transferred.
Adv Aires said he was served court summons last evening to appear before the Panjim Chief Judicial Magistrate P M Shinde on September 11 at 2.30 pm. However he appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday morning itself and collected the 108-page chargesheet against him after complying with the court formalities.
Reacting to the new charge sheet filed against him, Adv Rodrigues has stated that he would challenge the same before the appropriate court as according to Section 300 of the Criminal Procedure Code a person once acquitted cannot be tried again for the same offence or on the same facts.
It may be recalled that Panjim Judicial Magistrate First Class Mrs Sharmila Patil had on April 9 this year acquitted Adv Aires Rodrigues in another case filed by the police against him regarding the same incident.
