PANJIM: Chargesheet in the sensational Tarun Tejpal alleged sexual assault case is likely to be filed by Monday, crime branch officers said.
Crime Branch PI Sunita Sawant confirmed this but refused to divulge details.
Tejpal is in jail since his arrest on Nov 30, 2013 after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a district and sessions court. An FIR was filed on Nov 22, 2013.
However, investigating officers have already recorded several statements, including that of former Tehelka managing editor Shoma Chaudhury and Tejpal’s daughter, along with the deposition of the victim in connection with the case with sources saying that more than 150 witnesses have been examined including almost 10 witnesses who testified before judicial magistrate under section 164 CrPC. The charge sheet is said to run into several hundred pages and also contains forensic report.
The chargesheet will be filed before principal sessions judge Anuja Prabhudesai.
The police, had, besides three existing IPC sections, in the First Information Report, slapped sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (C) and 376 (2) (f) of IPC against him.
Initially he was booked under sections sections 354-A (sexual harassment, physical contact, advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures, or any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature), 376 (rape) and 376 (2) (k) (rape by a person of a woman in his custody taking advantage of his official position) of IPC.
Tejpal, is currently lodged at Sada sub jail.
