PANJIM: In a first, two brothers from Vasco – Rutikesh and Drushal Gurudev Chari – have been selected to receive music education from gurus at the coveted Dr Gangubai Hanagal Gurukul in Dharwad.
Rutikesh and Drushal are the only children of Gurudev and Gauri Chari, who live atop Driver Hill in Mangor, Vasco-da-Gama.  Gurudev is self employed and has been involved in the trade of furniture craft.
An aspirant who did not get through the medical seat two years ago, Rutikesh aged 19 is the elder of the two sons. After completing Class XII in 2017 and unable to get through to medicine, he continued to pursue his ambition to be a doctor by preparing for NEET. Simultaneously, the passion for music remained steady and the brothers continued to receive music classes at Shadj Gandhaar Music Academy in Vasco.
Speaking to Herald, Rutikesh said, “I’m very delighted and excited on having been selected to the gurukul. Had never thought that such an opportunity will come and this is God’s gift. Very excited for the next journey in life.”
Asked if he had a message for other aspiring students in the State, he said, “I had not thought about this but now I can say others too should pursue and try their best.”
The younger of the two, Drushal attended Arts stream at the same institute as Rutikesh, Vaddemnagar Higher Secondary School of Arts, Commerce and Science in New Vaddem.
Drushal passed Class XII this year and was going to seek admission to the undergraduate course at the Goa College of Music in Altinho. “Since we received a call from the Gurukul, he didn’t think of anything further,” Rutikesh added.
Rutikesh and Drushal will receive music education from some of renowned music gurus in the country with a 100 percent scholarship. They will be amongst the only 30 students selected from across the country after a rigorous process of nominations and auditions over a period of six months.
